Why texturing? Most Florida homes have textured walls and ceilings. Often times textured surfaces are most convenient to hide drywall and installation imperfections. However, drywall texture may complement interior decor if applied properly.
Types of texture. If you decide to implement surface texturing into the design of your living space, here are some of the most popular types of texture:
Knockdown texture has elegant looking detailed structure with a clean look. The process of application includes spraying drywall compound on the ceilings and walls with special equipment in a certain pattern, then lightly knocking down the spray applied material to create a particular look.
Skip trowel is a hand applied texture that resembles stucco. The structure of the pattern has rougher coarser look and is applied by hand without any special equipment except regular tools used for mud application.
I don’t think this one needs any particular explanation. Most homeowners are trying to get rid of it nowadays. Even though some prefer to keep it dealing with minor repairs every now and then.
The name is quite self-explanatory. This type of texture imitates the skin of an orange thus the name orange peel.
Application process is similar to knockdown texture application. Small pieces of Styrofoam embedded in drywall compound is sprayed out through a hopper spray gun in a certain thickness and pattern.
